Mandy Stanley

Mandy Stanley

Mandy Stanley was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk. She completed a Foundation Art course at Great Yarmouth College of Art and Design and then a Fashion degree at Nottingham Trent University, before beginning a successful career designing baby clothes and award-winning toys for high street stores. After a few years, Mandy became a freelance children's product designer, before concentrating on children's book illustration.

Mandy has now illustrated over 50 books for children, but is best known for her Lettice Rabbit series, which has sold more than half a million copies worldwide. The first book, Lettice - The Dancing Rabbit, was published in 2001, and Lettice was quickly established as a popular character. Since then, Mandy has created the Lettice board books, All About Me, My Sister's Birthday, Dance with Me and My Favourite Things, and the picture books, Lettice The Flying Rabbit, Lettice A Christmas Wish, and Lettice The Bridesmaid. Two wonderful new books are soon to publish: Lettice The Birthday Party and Lettice The Fairy Ball. The first drawings of Lettice were based on a real rabbit called Ruby.

As well as the Lettice books, Mandy is creator of Bloomer, Who Tickled Tilly?, the phenomenally successful board books What Do You Say?, What Do You Do? and forthcoming title, How Do You Feel?

Mandy is interested in cinema, television and film, particularly children's films, and also enjoys skiing, running and cooking. She lives in Suffolk with her husband (who builds aeroplanes in his workshop), son, daughter and two rabbits, Wellington and Roxy.
